Why Doesn't Selka Shun Alice Like the Rest of Rulid?

Selka Zuberg, the younger sister of Alice Zuberg (now Alice Synthesis Thirty), looks up to her sister and admires her dearly. When she discovers the truth about why Alice was taken from her home, Selka embarks on a trip by herself to walk Alice's path to the End Mountains. She feels she is always compared to Alice, even by her own family. Despite this, she never bears any ill will toward her sister. She wants to be like Alice and looks up to her, and she feels a journey in her sister's footsteps will help them grow closer inside.

When Alice arrives at Rulid Village for a place to stay with Kirito, Selka never once shuts out her sister. Even though all of Alice's memories have been sealed away, Selka decides to make new ones with her. From the start, she carries faith in her sister that she is not a "sinner" and is truly a good person, despite Alice's past Taboo violation by crossing into the Dark Territory. Her love for her sister is what persists, despite what the rest of the village thinks of Alice. Selka also welcomes Kirito's presence. She knows Kirito is important to Alice, so she wants to make sure he is well. She suggests they take a walk together, and she ends up insisting on helping Alice pay for her living expenses. Alice is just grateful for the company of her sister and does not want her to worry. Even if Alice cannot remember Selka when they were children, she loves her sister and tries her best to look out for her. Selka feels the same way about seeing Alice again, and she keeps her faith in her sister.

For Selka, the opportunity to spend time with her sister again means the world to her. She is shocked to see that Alice has become an Integrity Knight and a brave warrior. Selka believes in Alice before finding this out, but learning the truth only reaffirms her strong feelings. In the Underworld, society views Taboo violators as sinners that should be cast out. Rulid Village does not want Alice, a "criminal," in their midst. They believe she will bring bad luck, which is why they blame the goblin attack on her. In the end, they discover that Alice wishes to protect the people and is an Integrity Knight, not a criminal looking for refuge. All along, Selka knows her sister has a good heart and is definitely not a sinner.

When Selka learns the truth about Alice's journey to the End Mountains, she is inspired by her older sister's bravery. When Alice violated the Taboo Index, she was trying to help a Dark Knight from the Dark Territory. She did not carry any evil intentions at all. So, upon seeing her sister again, Selka looks at the courageous and compassionate person Alice is, not at the mistake that she made. She sees Alice for the goodness and purity of her soul.
